The land that we call home was once at the bottom of an ocean and south of the equator. After it rose to the surface it was flattened by a two-mile deep glacier. Winds blow from the west accross the Great Plains and are soon stopped by the Appalacian Mountains to our east. Just sixty miles south is the Ohio River and the Queen City of the West, Cincinnati. Thirty miles west on the Old National Trail (now US 40) is Richmond, Indiana. The Dixie Highway was a road from Michigan to Kentucky. Where the Dixie Highway and The National Trail Crossed is Vandalia, Ohio. Still The Crossroads of America, it is also the location of the modern interchanges of Interstate Highways 70 & 75. Vandalia is currently home to part of our family.
First son, Brian and his daughter Sherilyn live here. So does Sherilyn's mother and her Lutz grandparents. Carol (Flora) Seibert lives there with second son, Daniel.
The old Henry Warner Farm which is now part of Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University is also the site of 3037 Warner Drive - our home. From our home we can see the Base and the campus. We can walk to ancient Indian Mounds, the site of the Wright Brothers Flying Field and the worlds first flying school. Just six miles from here is the birthplace of Shawnee Chief Tecumseh and his brother "The Prophet".
The Huffman Dam is situated between The Base and The City of Dayton. It's construction led to the formation of Fairborn.
The town of Osborn was in the flood plain of the dam. Land was acquired next to the village of Fairfield (on the Huffman Prairie)and, with horses, mules and steam engines, the village was moved - only the cellars were left. Some of the grandest Victorian Houses in Ohio were moved by horse mule and steam engine. In 1950 the two villages merged into the City of Fairborn, Ohio.
Looking into our sky we may see an example of every aircraft flown the world over. Every American aircraft has flown this airspace. The space shuttle may glide into the base for a landing but it has only flown over on the back of a B-52.
Railroad tracks have carried Sherman's men to the Mississippi River on "The March to the Sea" and later, the Lincoln Funeral Train.
Here on Warner Drive the Seibert Family can reflect on America's great past while looking upward to our future.
| Wayne Franklin Seibert |
Born on August 13, 1953 in Jersey City, New Jersey I landed in Dayton on March 17, 1971 to work as a medic at Wright Patterson Medical Center. After discharge in 1976 I stayed and went to school and worked as musician. After all it is only a one-day drive to Chicago, New Orleans, Florida, New York and Detroit. Eventually the change of colleges and majors led from Wittenburg to Wright State to Park University and Clark State. In 1979, while a police officer in Donnelsville, OH I was hired by the Fairborn Police Department. I retired from there on August 13, 2001. |
| Darlene Lucille (Warden) Seibert |
Darlene has never lived anywhere but in Fairborn, Ohio. Her father moved from TN after WWII and her mother was raised in Xenia at the Ohio Soldiers and sailors Orphans Home. |
| Jonathon Robert Seibert | Only a few people call him Jon. Jonathon attends Fairborn Baker Junior High and currently is an avid bowler. |
| Alan Thomas Seibert |
Alan seems to resemble his mother but a 110 year old sketch of his grandfather, Lawrence Franklin Seibert, looks as though it could be him instead. |
| Brian Franklin Seibert | Number one son, as Charlie Chan addressed his own son is Brian. He graduated from Vandalia - Butler High School and has worked primarily in the food industry. He has held positions with several national companies but he is still trying to find himself. I hope he tells me where he is when he does. Brian's daughter, Sherilyn, is my "Number one" grand-child. |
| Daniel Wayne Seibert | Called 'Dan', he lives at home and attends Sinclair College in Dayton. He most recently worked as a guard at the Dayton Art Institute. A shift change to nights (and the museums ghostly inhabitants) interfered with academia and he left for other persuits. |
