Giving the military a police role for the purposes of fighting terrorism at home would be a very large step towards a Nazi-style total police state.

    Armed forces personnel should not be used as policemen.  It is disturbing we are even considering it.

  The murders of the men, women and children at the Mt. Carmel religious center outside of Waco, Texas, gassing and burning them alive by militarily trained FBI agents (the “Delta Force”) using helicopters, machine guns and a tank, are a frightening example of what police work becomes when you start circumventing the Posse Comitatus Act .

    The Posse Comitatus Act keeps us from becoming little more than a wealthy Banana Republic .  Reviewing this bit of heritage with the idea of increasing military activity in a domestic role is a step in the wrong direction.

  We need to strengthen the act , not continue to erode it.
