Joel 3:9-17
I didn’t like reading when I was young. It was bothersome to me that it seemed
to take so long to get a story going. I don’t know what my big rush was but I
just was pretty overwhelmed by a big book. I couldn’t track all of the
characters and I wondered why there had to be so much more information when I
had already read the paragraph of description on the back of the book. Maybe I
should have focused on short stories at the beginning of my reading years. If I
happened to get to the end of the first chapter I was usually pretty bothered
that I wasn’t finished with the book yet. I figured that I could help things
out a bit if I would just go to the last few pages of each chapter. I did get
thru the books a lot faster, but it didn’t make much sense. As the years went
on, I did learn to read a book cover to cover. I must admit that I was known to
flip to the end of the book on occasion to check out how the book would end.
9 Announce this to the godless nations: Prepare for battle!
Soldiers at attention! Present arms! Advance! 10 Turn your shovels into swords, turn your hoes into spears. Let the weak one throw
out his chest and say, “I’m tough, I’m a fighter.” 11 Hurry up, pagans!
Wherever you are, get a move on! Get your act together.
One of the things about being at this place in time is that we have the
knowledge of many of the books of the Bible. We know how many of the stories
will end before we even reading the first chapter of the book. One of the gifts
is looking into the books and seeing what we might have missed in previous
readings.
Consider some of the chapters of your life. What are some of the chapters of
your life you’ve especially enjoyed? What are some chapters you would have
liked to have looked to the end of the chapter before you completed it? What is
one movie you have watched many times and each time you learn a new thing? What
is a book you have reread and you have learned something new? What do you most
remember about this reading of Joel? Have a day!

Prayer Request: Could you please add Bobby to the prayer list. He
is an old neighbor and friend of the family who at the young age of 33 has been
diagnosed with choroidal melanoma of the eye that has
spread to his liver. He is also a new father. This family is trying very hard
to do everything that they can to find the best options for Bobby.
Typically, from diagnosis the prognosis is 7-14 months. Thank you Diana
Prayer Update: You can take me off the prayer list now. Thank you to
everyone for all the prayers. The brain tumor was removed, was found to be
benign, and the neurosurgeon has now released me from his care, as everything
seems to be going great. Blessings and peace. Ann
Prayer: We begin this day in you. We thank you
for your love and for your care. We know that we can’t skip ahead in this life.
There will be one day at a time and this day is this day. Use our words and our
actions and may everything be used to your glory. Amen
