In November of 2000 I started taking Ayla to Agility at Shamrock Acres. I quickly became good friends with Kim and her dog Divya. We started hanging out because we both worked with Arabians and Kim was interested in helping me train mine.
Time went on and I decided that I REALLY wanted another dog. We had had one before, but she did not get along with Ayla, and after begging my mom we got rid of the other dog instead of Ayla. I knew I wanted another border, and I also knew I couldn't afford to go to a breeder, or get one from a breed rescue. I figured I would have to try my luck with the shelters.
I also knew I wanted a boy. I figured the reason the last two didn't get along was due to the fact that they were both females. So I wanted a boy to avoid the heartache of having to choose again, should things not work out.
One day Kim called me up and told me that one of her friends had a litter of BC pups and were giving them away for free. I nearly died when I heard that! Even though the pup was a girl I was determined to make it work. I really put on the push to get mom to let me have another dog. And finally she gave in!
I called them right away to see when I could look at the puppies. They said they only had one left and that I could come and look at her that night if I wanted. I got directions, got my sister and her friend and Ayla in the car and began the hour and a half drive down to E-town.
When I got there this adorable tri-color border jumped all over me, and I got lots of kisses! Ayla wasn't very interested in the pup and the pup wasn't very interested in her. None the less, it was getting dark and we needed to head out.
Before we left we asked what they had been calling her. They said they had been calling her Cindy, after Cindy Crawford because of the dot by her nose.
With that we started with both the dogs in the back, but Ayla got upset so the pup sat in front on Ginas (my sister) friends lap. The poor pup drooled the whole way home and Kristin's (Ginas friend)lap was SOAKING wet. So wet that she was dripping!
We played the name game all the way home, and couldn't think of anything! So Cindy stuck. We started playing around with the whole Cindy Crawford thing and Gina came up with "Cindy Clawfur" for the name to go on her ILP. I really didn't like that too much, but was at a loss for something better. Until one night I was thinking about the new Grinch movie and the line "..and Little Cindy Lou Who, who was no more than 2..." popped into my mind and that's when I decided to call her that. Little Cindy Lou Who is her registered name.
