Sudbury
Rutland County
Vermont
A Short History Sudbury was chartered on 6 August 1763 by Benning Wentworth, Governor of New Hampshire. As with many Vermont towns the charter was challenged by New York. The same land was also chartered by Governor Wentworth in 1764 as Dunbar and by New York in 1767 as Halesborough.
By 1776 there were two roads in Sudbury: the Crown Point Road and the Hubbardton Military Road.
The Congregational Church was established in 1791 and the first tavern in 1798.
