 Soulfood - Relationships

Paul Gauguin - Breton Peasant Women

Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own house.
Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor…
Let no one ever come to you without leaving better or happier.
Be the living expression of God’s kindness;
Kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes,
Kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting.

....by Mother Teresa

If
If I could hold you close to my heart
And feel your warm breath on my breast
And know that hurt is just a part
Of living with the dark side of love

If I could take away the years of pain
I'd make them vanish so you'd be free
And take away that anguished stain
That lived within your life so long

If I could give you the love you craved
It would be pure and sweet and joyous
And I would give you everything saved
Inside of me, collected over ageless time

But we must find our own love and pleasure
Before we can invite someone to share
And this will be the important measure
To a life filled with passion and delight

On Love
There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable.
Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken.
If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart
to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round
with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements;
Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.
But in that casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change.
It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.

....by C.S. Lewis

Colors of the Wind
You think the only people who are people,
Are the ones who look and think the way you do,
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger,
You'll learn the things you never knew you never knew.

....from Pocohantas

Being Kind
So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
is all the sad world needs.

....by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

On Looking The Other Way
When Hitler attacked the Jews,
I was not a Jew, therefore, I was not concerned.
And when Hitler attacked the Catholics,
I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned.
And when Hitler attacked the unions and the industrialists,
I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned.
Then, Hitler attacked ME and the Protestant church--
and there was nobody left to be concerned.

....by Martin Niemoller

Friends
Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man.
Do not associate with one easily angered,
Or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.

....from Proverbs 22:24 of the Bible
