HAVE YOU READ TO YOUR CHILD LATELY?
TAKE TIME TO READ...
- Set aside at least 10 minutes each day to read together.
- Made the bedtime story a regular family event. Let your children choose their favorite stories.
- Read to your new baby. Try greeting cards, the newspaper, or cereal boxes.
Get a library card for you and your child (if he/she is eligible) and visit the library often. Find
out about library storytimes.
- Write down stories, poems, and sayings your children create.
- Ask your children to read to you while you work around the house.
- Let your children see you reading.
- Give books as gifts. Let children know you think books are special.

TIPS FOR READING ALOUD...
- Set the Mood-Get cozy for reading your story.
- Be Patient-Take time to answer your children's questions.
- Enjoy the pictures-Pictures help to tell the story.
- Don't race-Slow down. If time is a problem, read a shorter story.
- Have fun-Sharing stories creates a closeness your children will remember all their lives.
- Just Do It-Don't be afraid to try. Reading aloud will help you raise a reader!

TAKE A BOOK ALONG...
- Books make waiting easier for everyone. Don't leave home without one!
- Carry a book in the baby's diaper bag. Give your toddler a special book bag.
- Keep books in the car to enjoy even on short trips. Don't forget to pack books for vacations.
- Take books to restaurants and doctors' offices.
