Ford Motorsport Enthusiast's (FME) '99 Open House

The pictures featured here were taken at the '99 Ford Motorsport Enthusiast Open House. The Miata special interest group was able to get ahold of Mazda Great Lakes and arrange for these very special vehicles to be displayed. Among them were (at the time) every Miata based concept (both of them) as well as two very special editions. The 10th Anniversary Edition that is shown is the 0001/7500. This is the one that is in all of the brochures and magazine articles, as well as had been at the different auto shows. The other is the 500,000th Miata. Again, there are only one of these and only one of two in the US that are Evolution Orange(?).

Check out the following pictures, and stay tuned for what happens at this years FME Open House.

This is the interior of the 10th Anniversary Edition. We have all seen these now, but at the time this was all new.
The lighting inside Ford World Headquarters was terrible, but I tried to get a picture anyway.
I was also trying to take a real closeup of the badge on the left front fender. It is a bit blurry, but if you look real close (and use some graphics touchup tools) you can tell that it is #0001.
Here is the engine compartment of the 10AM. According to the Mazda Marketing guys that were there, the car was hand built in order to be ready for the photos and appearances. That is why there are pictures of the 10AM with and without fog lights.

The newest of the Miata concept fleet (until now) is the M-Coupe. This is a coupe version of our beloved Miata.
I had to take a closeup of the emblem.
The interior was cool. The seats were leather with yellow M's, it also had some other familiar aftermarket items such as the Nardi wheel, shift nob, etc.

This old Miata concept is still a show stopper. Everyone stopped by and checked out the M-Speedster.
The most interesting part of the M-Speedster (IMHO) is the carbon fiber rear deck and the interior.
The interior is all race. Schroth seats/harnesses, fire extinguisher, etc.
The emblem.
The engine compartment houses a supercharger. Not very impressive these days, but it was very cool when the car was built (circa '94?).
The carbon fiber rear deck contains storage for two maching helmets. Very cool idea.
Another shot of the seats and rear deck.

This is the 500,000th Miata to be built. It is Evolution Orange(?) and it is only two in the US that are this color.
