"Better to Light a Candle Than to Curse the Darkness"

International Endometriosis Association Motto.

This candle burns in support of all the women who suffer each day with Endo, and in honor of those who care for them and share their pain.

Introduction

On July 7, 1998 at the age of 25, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy due to severe Endometriosis. Endometriosis is a legitimate disease and a very real mystery as there is no one known cause for the disease, and there is no cure.

This site is created to help spread awareness of Endometriosis in the hopes of some day finding a cure, to educate people on this disease, and above all to let women who are suffering from it know. .

Breaking the Cycle

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis occurs when bits of the lining of the uterus (called the endometrium) escape the uterus and are found on other pelvic organs. It is believed that this happens during menstruation when the tissue is being shed during the normal menstrual flow. Most often, tissue deposits on the outside of the ovaries, tubes, or uterus. It then imitates the menstrual cycle: it thickens until after ovulation, then breaks apart and bleeds. Because there is nowhere for the blood to go, blood blisters are formed. Cysts may form to surround the blisters. The cysts can become scars or adhesions that can prevent pregnancy. The cause of endometriosis is not known.

There is NO cure for Endometriosis.

Symptoms

severe menstrual cramps
pelvic pain apart from menses
chronic lower back pain
painful intercourse
painful bowel movements
fatigue
bloating
constipation
menstrual diarrhea
pain with exercise
painful pelvic exams
painful and frequent urination
pelvic swelling
infertility

If you or someone you know is experiencing ANY of the above symptoms, contact your doctor
