Michigan Atlas and Gazeteer, DeLorme -Maps of the whole state, generally pretty accurate in the Lower Peninsula, though some areas in the U.P. occasionally appear outdated or flat out wrong with respect to site names, town locations, and roads. The latest edition is 1998 - be careful some stores still stock the old 1995 edition. (1998)
Guide To Sea Kayaking, Lakes Huron, Erie & Ontario, Sarah Ohmann and Bill Newman - Up-to-date and packed full of trips, this is a must-buy. Provides details and background info on numerous locations on the eastern Great Lakes. Clearly organized and well-written. Don't miss their book on Lakes Michigan and Superior, too. (1999)
Canoeing Michigan Rivers, A Comprehensive Guide to 45 Rivers, Jerry Dennis and Craig Date - Detailed descriptions of Michigan's major rivers - a little out of date but still useful. (1986) Note an updated version is due out March, 2001.
Michigan State and National Parks, Tom Powers - One to two page descriptions of Michigan's parks, with good maps of each one. (1997 - 3rd Ed.)
Along the Historic Riviere auxSables, Neil Thornton - A history of the Au Sable River, with pictures of the river as it used to be.
