A Military Mother's Prayer     What time is it in Iraq?     John Kerry "War Tested"?

HI! I'm Connie Novak.  Our family is very proud of our soldiers serving their country. In our family we currently have four members serving.  Scott - in Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division; Josh - Illinois National Guard (deployed twice already, we're hoping they won't go anywhere again until after he gets discharged in August of this year!); Casey - my nephew, Texas National Guard with a possibility of deployment sometime late summer, but who knows for sure when and where!; Carl - my nephew (actually my niece's husband, but that's close enough in this family!) an MP at Ft. Bliss, TX. He's been to Iraq and returned, possibly now heading for South Korea in the near future. Home supporting our troops are my daughter Jessica; my daughter-in-law and grandson, Kara and Estin; Stacey Manns (my niece, recently discharged from the Army and wife of Carl), and my niece Abby.

My favorite quote:

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
--John Stewart Mill--

Scott Deployed to Iraq

Scott's unit - Echo Company, 15th Forward Support Battalion, has been deployed for medical coverage of the 1st Cavalry Division in Baghdad.  His "home" base there is Camp Victory North, which is near the "Green Zone".  It is part of the compound that was either Uday or Qusay's palace (he doesn't remember which one) and the Baghdad International Airport.  The best website I've seen for information on military operations and analysis is http://www.globalsecurity.org/ - be careful NOT to use the ending .com as that site has been taken over by various organizations at different times, and you could get some very interesting results ranging from simple anti-war protesters to a porn site (well, OK, if you go there don't say I didn't warn you!). Sometime in your visit here, please sign Scott's tribute page. He does have access to it in Iraq and can read your supportive letters.  Remember, that in the Army, he's "Frank" - so you'll notice some of the letters on the page are addressed to "Frank" and some are addressed to "Scott" - that's how you know if people know him personally!!:

E-mail me (armymom@ameritech.net) if you would like to contact him at either his
Army e-mail address or send him something via snail-mail.

Getting to know you-

We are all proud of our military men and women, but there is a little piece in our hearts that is screaming in terror (especially at 2am) that, while we know what must be done, we are also extremely aware of the sacrifice we may be making to complete the mission. If you are the proud relative or friend of military personnel (any branch), there are many resources to help you feel you are an important part of this operation, right alongside of your son/daughter/relative/friend.  Some of them are linked below. If these don't fit your needs, search the web, ask at your local church or veteran's association, keep looking - you'll find a way to be an important part of the war on terror.  Above all else -
 SUPPORT THE TROOPS!

In honor of all the military men and women who may soon be in harm's way,
I dedicate this page to all their loved ones back home just trying to get through the night.
May God bless and keep us all.
