Welcome to my
little rest stop along the infobahn. Within the confines of this
(admittedly simple) page, I'll tell you a little about
myself and point you toward some (hopefully interesting)
destinations.

News as of January 1, 2000
If you're here, you've survived Y2K (and not the millennium, which we all know really starts in 2001), and, surprise, I've left America Online! Fortunately, that's been a handy excuse to update content and stuff. Right about now I'm splitting my time between a somewhat new job, preparing for teaching at the Center for Creative Studies, and getting ready for the Detroit Auto Show. Be warned that migrating from AOL to Ameritech is not a piece of cake, so the Mini and My Home links probably won't work properly.
Well, I was born in a small town...
OK, too much detail. Anyway, born and bred in New Jersey and educated in Boston,
I'm now living just north of Detroit (where the weak are
killed and eaten). For more gory details on me and my life, check
out the sections below...
What on earth
would drag me away from
the culturally rich and ocean-bounded northeast? Well, probably
the fact that I've got gasoline in my blood. A longtime interest
in cars has brought me here, where I dabble in what's
known officially as "competitor intelligence" (corporate
spy stuff, but of course our legal people won't let us call it
that) for General Motors.
If you're interesting in catching up with news and stuff, check out my favoritecar magazine, the delightfully British (and appropriately named) Car Magazine, or daily news at Car and Driver's Daily Automotive Insider.
I subscribe to the idea that technology is your friend. Despite being a longtime PC user, I used to carry around an Apple Newton Messagepad 2000e as my auxiliary brain away from home; in June, I jumped ship (since the Newton has been a lame duck since March of 1998) and purchased a Casio E100. Best bet for learning about all sorts of PDAs (including the ubiquitous Palm devices) is smaller.com.
But the Casio is just one of my
toys. For info on other techno developments--hard or soft--check
out C|Net's news.com (or the Gadgets section at C|Net itself)
Despite a
background in engineering,
I enjoy keeping the right half of my brain alive and well. As an
actor/singer/dancer, I participate in local community theatre (but
of course, like any actor, what I really want to do
is direct). The group I spend the most time with is Royal Oak's
own Stagecrafters.
As you have guessed from the page layout, I'm something of a fontaholic, always on the lookout for new and fascinating typefaces. Font Fiesta is one of the best sites for a list of where to find the cool stuff; also check out the TrueType Font Resource.
I also like to dabble in the kitchen, picking up interesting recipes and stuff at Epicurious. On the beverage end, I've been drinking martinis since before they were fashionable (influenced by Dashiell Hammett's The Thin Man); a visit to Shaken, Not Stirred brings me up to speed on new and interesting potent potables.
And, finally, I confess to enjoying Star Trek (as well as all sorts of other science fiction, ie the late lamented Babylon 5, X Files, Farscape, etc). I get my weekly fix of news at Science Fiction Weekly. TrekWeb offers the latest news on all things Trek (as well as numerous sights and sounds)
By the way, any agents or publishers out there looking for bright new talent? I've got a couple of murder mysteries just waiting to be published; one set at my alma mater ( MIT) and one set in Tolkien-like fantasy world (elves, dwarves, et al). MysteryNet has a classy "history of the mystery" as well as weekly cases to solve.
The most recent addition to my 'family' is a 1972 Austin Mini. For a few images of this revolutionary small car, check out this page. For info on Minis and other British marvels, check out the Mini Mania Home Page.
And finally, just for laughs, I
heartily recommend picking up some Joke Wallpaper,
a visit to the Center for the Easily Amused for some random silliness, and a daily
dose of Quotes of the Day to add a little culture to your life.
I suppose there's
a chance that someone out there is asking "So what's your
taste in furniture like?"
Well, rather than clutter up this page with excess graphics (definitely
a web faux pas nowadays), I've put a quick tour over here.
It's been
suggested that I travel often enough to add a section on where I've
been. This past summer and fall have been quite busy, with
pleasure trips to Cape Cod, Colorado
Springs (Mini owners' convention), and Miami
(long weekend cruise). I've also been to Las Vegas,
Orlando, Frankfurt, and Tokyo, all on
business.

Well, if you've gotten this far, you deserve to
know what the heck I look
like. Being somewhat camera-shy, I had to hunt around for
something usable. Yes, I own a tuxedo. Yes, I also own
more casual clothes, too.
And so ends the story so far. Any questions or comments? Then drop me a line.
